Congratulations and a big thank you to everyone who participated in our inaugural STAR AquaCenter Summer Splash! ⭐️🌊 @hampton_scooby (swipe👉) did not participate in the swim, but was cheering everyone on from his pool on Noyack Road! 🐶 What a beautiful morning we had! Perfect conditions, great turnout and fantastic energy all around. There’s nothing as inspiring as gathering community supporters together, seeing the joy that swimming brings, and hearing what the STAR AquaCenter would mean to each of you. It’s what keeps us pushing forward after the beaches close for the season! ✨ A very special thanks to @southamptonvillageoceanrescue for keeping everyone safe in the water and for helping us with the planning of our first ever open water swim. STAR AquaCenter is proud to announce the Southampton premiere of WATERPROOF: Lifeguards for Life on July 10th, 7-9 PM at @southamptonartscenter Presented by Artemis Rising Foundation, Directed by Academy Award winning Director Ross Kauffman, and Produced by Mae Mougin, this is the story of a community of Lifeguards, Ocean Rescue, and one Town’s mission for a safe swimming environment on the eastern end of Long Island. For our waterfront community, water safety starts in the pool. This includes learning how to swim and understand one’s strengths and limitations in the ocean and the bay. Drowning is the leading cause of death for children and youth worldwide, and we are committed to building an aquatics center to waterproof Southampton and every child growing up in our community. Support STAR AquaCenter by joining us for the screening of WATERPOOF, Q&A’s, Lifeguard Stories, and a screening of the opening scene of Later Gator, Directed by Kevin Quinn. Today is International Water Safety Day, a day dedicated to help spread global awareness of the ongoing drowning pandemic and to educate youth in becoming safer in and around water. Water Safety has always been, and continues to be, the driving force behind our efforts to bring an indoor pool and fitness facility to our coastal community, to ensure that all of our residents have access to affordable, year-round swim instruction and water safety education. 🛟 Every hour, every day, more than 40 people lose their lives to drowning 🛟 372,000 people drown each year, with those under 5 years old at greatest risk 🛟 Globally, over half of all drowning deaths are under 25 years old 🛟 Drowning is the number one cause of death for children 1-4 in the United States 🛟 For children ages 5-14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes Do Your Part, Be Water Smart! 👉 It all begins with learning to swim. Swim lessons teach skills you need to enjoy the water safely. 👉 Swim as a pair near a lifeguard’s chair. Never swim alone. 👉 Look before you leap. Be sure that it’s a safe place and time to swim. 👉 Follow the rules. They help keep you safe. Always listen to the lifeguards. 👉 Don’t just pack it, wear your life jacket. All boaters should wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets. Inexperienced swimmers should wear them in our around water. 👉 Think, so you don’t sink. Know what to do if you get in trouble in the water. Floating or treading can help you think! 👉 Reach or throw, don’t go! Reach or throw an object to help someone in trouble in the water to safety. Never go in the water trying to help. 👉 Stay away from drains! Flat, outdated drain covers can create suction and hold you underwater. We are offering five (5) scholarships to Town Residents ages 15 and above, who are interested in becoming certified lifeguards through the Town of Southampton this spring. 🛟🏊 The scholarships cover the required full Lifeguard CPR Training Course and the Surf Course and/or Non Surf Course.
