Q: When did the project start?
A: In 1989, Southampton Town Aquatics & Recreation, Inc. (STAR) was formed as a nonprofit corporation. We began raising funds and helping to promote a referendum to build a town supported pool. When the referendum was defeated in the early 90’s, the project fell dormant.
Two years ago, utilizing the money that was initially raised, the STAR Aqua Board hired professional aquatics and sports facility consultants to conduct feasibility studies so that we would build the “right size” pool/aquatics center.
We are currently conducting a financial feasibility study that will begin our professional fundraising campaign and make our vision a reality.
Q: Why start the project?
A: The project teams involved realized the need to have an aquatics facility of this caliber for the local community. It will feature activities and programming that currently is not available or affordable for local residents.
Q: Who are the teams involved in making this project a reality?
A: The STAR Aqua Board works as the primary decision-making team for the project. The Sports Facilities Advisory (SFA) and Counsilman-Hunsaker are the strategic planning partners and advisors in the project.
Q: Will this project make my taxes increase?
A: No. Funds will be privately raised through fundraising and philanthropic donations.
